ST 13 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory
The acupuncture point "ST 13" , 氣戶, is represented by "Qihu" in pinyin and "Qi Door" in english and may be found:
4 cun lateral to the AML at the lower border of the clavicle.
Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:
- Asthma, cough, wheezing, chest distention, hiccups.
- Local point - rib pain, inability to turn head, neck pain.
ST 13 has some precautions to be considered (see our precautions list).
No Deep Needling (NDN)
Oblique insertion only.
A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. ST13, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Lung Rebellious Qi
ST 13 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Asthma, Hiccups, Neck Pain and/or Wheezing (Dyspnea)
While not necessarily valid clinically, CV 21 ( Local point for chest issues - pain, cough, a…), KD 27 (Opens & relaxes the chest - asthma, constrict…) and LU 2 (Similar to LU 1 but used more often as a local sh…) are nearby.
