ST 33 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

Theory

The acupuncture point "ST 33" , 阴市, is represented by "Yinshi" in pinyin and "Yin Market" in english and may be found:

With knee flexed, 3 cun above the superior lateral border of the patella on line connecting with the ASIS.


Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • ST 31, ST 32 & ST 33 are all useful for Bi-Syndromes a/or Wei Syndromes (flaccidity or weakness) of the lower legs.
  • Weakness, numbness, motor control issues of the leg and/or knee.

A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. ST33, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Spleen Qi Deficiency

ST 33 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Arthritis (Bi Syndromes), Knee Pain, Muscle Weakness and/or Parkinson's Disease (PD)

While not necessarily valid clinically, SP 10 (Any Gynecological issues originating from Blood, …) are nearby.
