UB 42 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

The acupuncture point "UB 42" , 魄戶, is represented by "Po Hu" in pinyin and "Po Door" in english and may be found:

3 cun lateral to GV 12 and UB 13, level with T3, on the spinal border of the scapula.

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • Reinforce the Lung Shu (UB 13) for Lung related disorders: cough, asthma, etc.
  • Drain heat from the Lung - cough with heat, tuberculosis.
  • Local point for shoulder and upper back pain and restriction.

A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. UB42, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Lung Qi Deficiency

UB 42 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Asthma, Cough, Neck Pain, Shoulder Pain and/or Tuberculosis

While not necessarily valid clinically, GV 12 ( Heat in the lungs and chest, cough, asthma, c…), SI 11 (Breast problems, mastitis, insufficient lactation…) and UB 13 (Main point for all Lung related issues from a TCM…) are nearby.
