UB 8 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

The acupuncture point "UB 8" , 絡卻, is represented by "Luo Que" in pinyin and "Declining Connection" in english and may be found:

1.5 cun posterior to UB 7 or 5.5 cun above the AHL and 1.5 cun lateral to the AML.

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • Resolve phlegm and clear wind - nasal congestion, blurry vision, dizziness, tinnitus.
  • Calms the shen - a range of psychological conditions including depression, mania, withdrawal from lack of ability of the shen to rise.
  • Useful for removing obstructions causing Qi flow issues to the head/brain (heavy head, vertex pain, distention).

UB 8 has some precautions to be considered (see our precautions list).

Avoid Moxa (MX)

A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. UB8, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Lung Dampness - Phlegm Heat, Phlegm Misting the Heart and/or Shen Disturbance

UB 8 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Depression, Dizziness (Vertigo), Epilepsy (Seizure), Manic Depression, Sinus Infection and/or Tinnitus

While not necessarily valid clinically, GB 18 (Local Point.) and GV 20 (Main point for headache, dizziness, eye pain and …) are nearby.
