Bai Mao Gen TCM Herb Classifications and Usages

The TCM herb "bai mao gen" which in english is "wolly grass root", is categorized within the "herbs that stop bleeding" functional grouping. It is thought to enter the lung, small intestine, stomach and urinary bladder channels and exhibits cold (han) and sweet (gan) taste/temperature properties.

Dosages and preparations will vary according to each individual and the overall approach of a formula, but generally this herb has the following dosage and/or preparation guidelines:

  • Dosage: 9-24g

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • Cools blood and stops bleeding - blood in urine, nosebleed, vomiting blood, coughing blood.
  • Clears heat and promotes urination - hot painful urination with edema and difficult urination.
  • Clears heat from the stomach and lungs - nausea and thirst due to stomach heat or wheezing due to lung heat.
