Jiang Xiang TCM Herb Classifications and Usages

The TCM herb "jiang xiang" which in english is "dalbergia heartwood", is categorized within the "herbs that stop bleeding" functional grouping. It is thought to enter the liver, spleen and stomach channels and exhibits acrid and warm (wen) taste/temperature properties.

Dosages and preparations will vary according to each individual and the overall approach of a formula, but generally this herb has the following dosage and/or preparation guidelines:

  • Dosage: 6-9g
  • Powder: 1.5-3g

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • Disperses blood stasis, stops bleeding - internal injuries due to trauma, fracture.
  • Invigorates blood, promotes qi movement - epigastric and abdominal pain.
