Zhu Ru TCM Herb Classifications and Usages
The TCM herb "zhu ru" which in english is 
"bamboo shavings", is categorized within the "herbs that cool and transform phlegm heat" functional grouping. It is thought to enter the gall bladder, lung and stomach channels and exhibits cold (han) and sweet (gan) taste/temperature properties.
Dosages and preparations will vary according to each individual and the overall approach of a formula, but generally this herb has the following dosage and/or preparation guidelines:
- Dosage: 4.5-9g
Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:
- Clears and transforms phlegm-heat - thick sputum, stifling sensation in the chest, coughing up blood.
- Clears heat from the stomach, stops vomiting (good choice for different types including morning sickness), aversion to heat, bad breath, yellow greasy tongue.
- Cools the blood and stops bleeding - to stop nosebleed and vomiting of blood.
Zhu Ru may potentially be used, in coordination with a well tailored formula (in most cases), to influence the following conditions: halitosis (bad breath), nosebleed (epistaxis) and/or vomiting
