GB 22 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

The acupuncture point "GB 22" , 淵腋, is represented by "Yuan Ye" in pinyin and "Armpit Abyss" in english and may be found:

On the midaxillary line when the arm is raised below the axilla in the 5th ICS (directly below HT 1).


Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • Local Point.

GB 22 has some precautions to be considered (see our precautions list).

Avoid Moxa (MX)

While not necessarily valid clinically, KD 22 (Local Point, generally useful for cough, chest te…), SP 17 (Promotes smooth spleen qi (digestion), moves wate…), SP 18 (Descends qi - chest oppression, shortness of brea…), SP 21 (Mentioned classically that when this point is def…) and ST 18 (Any issues with the breasts - mastitis, pain/swel…) are nearby.
