KD 4 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

The acupuncture point "KD 4" , 大鐘, is represented by "Dazhong" in pinyin and "Large Goblet" in english and may be found:

Posterior and inferior to the medial malleolus in a depression anterior to the medial attachment of the achilles tendon.

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • Luo Connecting Point - can be used to treat the LI (opposite the chinese clock).
  • Important point for somnolence, fright/fear, palpitations, reluctance to interact with others.
  • Cough, asthma, wheezing, shortness of breath, painful/sore throat.
  • Chronic low back pain from KD Deficiency.
  • Local point for heel/ankle issues - pain, strain.

Kd 4 has the following theoretical associations which serve as important guideposts in designing an effective treatment protocol:

A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. KD4, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Heart Yin Deficiency and/or Shen Disturbance

KD 4 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Anxiety, Asthma, Back Pain, Cough, Fear and/or Palpitations

While not necessarily valid clinically, LV 4 (Generally, moves stagnation and clears heat - Hep…), SP 5 (Tonifies the spleen and resolves dampness - letha…) and UB 60 (Main point for pain anywhere along the spine (UB …) are nearby.
