LI 1 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory
The acupuncture point "LI 1" , 商陽, is represented by "Shang Yang" in pinyin and "Metal Yang" in english and may be found:
.1 cun posterior to the corner of the nail on the radial side of the index finger.
Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:
- Jing Well Point, for heat, pain, stagnation, especially at the opposite end of the channel, for eye and ear pain and inflammation, toothache.
- Bleed for high fever, coma

A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. LI1, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Large Intestine Damp Heat
LI 1 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Coma, Ear Problems, Eye Problems, Fever and/or Toothache
While not necessarily valid clinically, LU 11 (Extreme sore throat (may bleed point to reduce he…) and PC 9 (Jing Well Point for clearing heat in the Heart. …) are nearby.
