LI 3 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory
The acupuncture point "LI 3" , 三間, is represented by "San Jian" in pinyin and "Third Space" in english and may be found:
On the radial side of the index finger, proximal to the head of the 2nd metacarpal bone.
Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:
- Expel wind and heat particularly from the throat, teeth, mouth, face and eyes.
- Diarrhea.
Li 3 has the following theoretical associations which serve as important guideposts in designing an effective treatment protocol:
A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. LI3, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Large Intestine Damp Heat
LI 3 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Diarrhea and/or Sore Throat
While not necessarily valid clinically, EX Baxie (Issues of the hand - pain, spasm, numbness. Menti…), EX Luozhen (Acute issues of the neck - strain, sprain, whipla…) and EX Yaotongxue (Acute issues of the low back - pain, sprain, stra…) are nearby.
