SI 8 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

The acupuncture point "SI 8" , 小海, is represented by "Xiao Hai" in pinyin and "Small Sea" in english and may be found:

Between the olecranon process of the ulna and the medial epicondyle of the humerus, found with the elbow flexed.

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

Elbow problems, swelling, trembling, pain, numbness, weakness - channel issues with excess wind a/or heat.
Submandibular region swelling or pain, toothache, gums, cheek, neck, scapula, axilla.
Epilepsy

Si 8 has the following theoretical associations which serve as important guideposts in designing an effective treatment protocol:

A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. SI8, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Liver Fire, Liver Wind and/or Lung Wind Invasion - Wind Heat

SI 8 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Arm Pain, Epilepsy (Seizure), Mouth Sores (Ulcers), Neck Pain and/or Toothache

While not necessarily valid clinically, HT 3 (Pain, numbness, tremors, etc. of the lower arms a…), LI 11 (Reduction of high fevers, patients with the 4 big…), LU 5 (He Sea Point - useful for counterflow Qi/diarrhea…), PC 3 (Chronic angina - palpitations, anxiety, panic att…) and TH 10 (Transforms phlegm, reduce lymph swellings, thyroi…) are nearby.
