ST 26 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

The acupuncture point "ST 26" , 外陵, is represented by "Wailing" in pinyin and "Outer Mound" in english and may be found:

2 cun lateral to the AML level with CV 7.

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • Abdominal pain, bloating, hernias.
  • Menstrual issues - dysmenorrhea (cramps/painful menstruation), amenorrhea (absense of menstruation), irregular cycles.

A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. ST26, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Liver Qi Stagnation

ST 26 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Abdominal Pain, Amenorrhea (Absence of Menstruation), Dysmenorrhea (Menstrual Pain - Cramps), Hernia and/or Irregular Menstruation

While not necessarily valid clinically, CV 7 ( This point is not used very often clinically,…), KD 15 (KD 11, KD 12, KD 13, KD 14 & KD 15 all inters…) and SP 14 (Warms the middle warmer and dissipates cold for l…) are nearby.
