UB 36 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

Theory

The acupuncture point "UB 36" , 承扶, is represented by "Cheng Fu" in pinyin and "Support" in english and may be found:

On posterior side of the thigh at the midpoint of the inferior gluteal crease (locate in prone position).


Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • Low back pain/sciatica where pain runs down the posterior aspect of the leg.
  • Weakness of the lower limb.
  • Similar functions to UB 35 in clearing damp heat and swellings from the lower warmer - genital pain and swelling, hemorrhoids, seminal emission, difficult urination.

A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. UB36, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Bladder Damp Heat

UB 36 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Back Pain, Genital Pain - Swelling, Hemorrhoids, Leg Pain, Sciatica, Seminal Emission and/or Urinary Disorders (Lin Disease)
