Ban Mao TCM Herb Classifications and Usages
The TCM herb "ban mao" which in english is "cantharides, mylabris", is categorized within the "herbs for external applications" functional grouping. It is thought to enter the large intestine, liver and small intestine channels and exhibits cold (han) taste/temperature properties.
Dosages and preparations will vary according to each individual and the overall approach of a formula, but generally this herb has the following dosage and/or preparation guidelines:

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:
- Attack toxins, wears away sores - used topically for sores, carbuncles, scrofula.
- Breaks up blood stasis, disperses clumps - palpable non-moving masses.
