Lu Feng Fang TCM Herb Classifications and Usages

The TCM herb "lu feng fang" which in english is "hornets nest", is categorized within the "herbs for external applications" functional grouping. It is thought to enter the lung and stomach channels and exhibits neutral (ping) and sweet (gan) taste/temperature properties.

Dosages and preparations will vary according to each individual and the overall approach of a formula, but generally this herb has the following dosage and/or preparation guidelines:

  • Dosage: 6-12g in decoction
  • 1.5-3g in powders

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • Relieve toxicity, expel wind, alleviate pain - toothache (gargle).
  • Topically - skin rash, itching, scabies, ringworm, sores, carbuncles.
  • Expel wind, dry damp - painful obstruction, wind rash.
