Qing Hao TCM Herb Classifications and Usages
The TCM herb "qing hao" which in english is "wormwood", is categorized within the "herbs that clear and relieve summerheat" functional grouping. It is thought to enter the gall bladder, kidney and liver channels and exhibits bitter (ku) and cold (han) taste/temperature properties.
Dosages and preparations will vary according to each individual and the overall approach of a formula, but generally this herb has the following dosage and/or preparation guidelines:
- Dosage: 3-9g (added at the end)
Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:
- Clears summer heat - fever, headache, dizziness, stifling sensation in the chest.
- Clears deficient fever - unremitting fever or night fever with no sweating (from blood deficiency or sequel of febrile disease).
- Cools the blood, stops bleeding - purpuric rash, nosebleed due to heat in the blood.
- Malarial disorders - alternating fever and chills.
While it may not always be included depending on the manufacturer or herbalist making the formula, qing hao is generally included in the following 1 formula:
