SP 19 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

The acupuncture point "SP 19" , 胸鄉, is represented by "Xiongxiang" in pinyin and "Chest Village" in english and may be found:

6 cun lateral to the anterior midline in the 3rd inter-costal space.

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • Aids the descent of lung qi - cough.
  • Regulate lung qi - shortness of breath, chest oppression.

A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. SP19, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Lung Rebellious Qi

SP 19 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Cough

While not necessarily valid clinically, CV 18 ( Local point for chest issues - pain, cough, a…), KD 24 (Local Point, generally useful for cough, chest te…) and ST 16 (Chest tightness a/or pain, asthma, cough. Breast…) are nearby.
