Natural and Alternative Fibroids Treatment Options

Fibroids Treatment {introduction}

Fibroids are benign masses of muscle cells and tissue that grow in and on the uterus. These growths can be as small as one millimeter or as large as 8 inches across. They can also occur as a single mass or grow in clusters. Many women with fibroids do not experience any symptoms, however; some women can have heavy or painful menstrual periods, lower back pain, excessive urination, pain during sex, pelvic pressure or reproductive issues such as miscarriages or infertility. Although fibroids occur in at least 25 percent of U.S. women of childbearing age, there is no known cause.

Below you will find alternative and natural treatment options including those from a Chinese Medicine perspective for fibroids.

TCM Diagnostic Patterns Related to Fibroids

Listed below are Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) diagnostic patterns that are commonly involved with this western medical condition/symptom. Properly applied, Chinese Medicine (including acupuncture and herbal medicine) treats patterns not individual symptoms/conditions which may better account for the range of symptoms often experienced by individuals. Pattern diagnosis/treatment is a crucial part of using Chinese Medicine for disease prevention instead of focusing on solely symptomatic treatments as is somewhat more common in western medicine. For more on this concept, please read What Does Acupuncture Treat? Or Treating the "Cause" and not the "Symptoms".

There are no tcm differential pattern diagnoses listed for this pattern at this time.

    While the science behind the reasoning for removing a women's ovaries (oophorectomy, or ovariectomy) is very debatable and the risks, particularly of hormone therapy, are high it is nonetheless a surgery that is performed to around 1/2 million women in the US each year.  As more women understand the range of aid that is available through Chinese medicinal herbal formulas and techniques such as acupuncture hopefully the number of women who undergo this surgery will drop.
