Case Feedback for Hypothyroidism

By Archived User | Updated: Dec 31, 2021 | Published: Dec 31, 2021

A female patient has hypothyroidism and is taking Levothyroxin 50 mcg. Her TSH has a high reading of 13.740. She still is fatigued and has cold hands even with the Levothyroxin. She is also taking Ciplar for high blood pressure. After starting Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan 3 spoons 3 x/day the front of her neck started itching so the Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan was reduced to one spoon 3x/day. Is the itching is due to heat caused by the combination of TSH & Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan? Sometimes when a wound is healing it will itch. Could the itching neck be due to the thyroid gland regenerating or healing from the Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan?

What is her overall diagnosis with supporting information such as tongue, pulse, other issues? It sounds like the formula is far too warming for her. Just because she is experiencing symptoms of hypothyroidism does not mean she is yang deficient. You have to look very closely at her symptoms and the progression of the disease (i.e. what she was like before being fully diagnosed as hypo)....
