Porcupine cough?

By Archived User | Updated: Dec 31, 2021 | Published: Dec 31, 2021

I am only a student of TCM and browsing the net for acupuncture formulas I came upon this one:
Cough:
CV 6 12 16 17 20 21 22 23
P 2 4
GB 8 10 11 20 21 44
GV 9 10 11 12 14 23
KI 1 3 19 22 24 27
LI 4 11 13 15 18
LU 1 2 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11
LV 14
SI 1 2 15
SP 5 14 18 20
ST 9 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 25 36 38
40 41
TW 5 10
BL 11 12 13 14 15 17 20 21 37 38 42 43 44
45

This is a formula given for cough!? If I do this obviously the patient would literally look like a porcupine. Unfortunately no explanation to this 'formula' is given so I'm not sure what they mean by all these points but I highly doubt that this would be one formula for cough. I wonder if they meant that you pick one of these points on each of these meridian depending on the type of cough?

Any thoughts?

This is obviously an outline, as you point out, of points that are within the realm of possibility for the treatment of cough. You should read my treatment article on acupuncture for coughing. That will give you an idea of the possible diagnoses and valid treatment points.
