Acupuncture Meta-Analysis Finds Effectiveness for GAD

acupuncture research

Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is characterized by excessive, uncontrollable worry about various aspects of life to the point that it interferes with daily functioning. Properly tailored acupuncture is generally effective for a wide range of mental health issues. In this meta-analysis, researchers included 41 studies that included 3,209 patients. The researchers found that acupuncture either alone or combined with medication improved outcomes. They noted that "a treatment duration of 4-6 weeks was associated with better outcomes; for stand-alone acupuncture, a frequency of seven sessions per week was more effective than medication, while for combined therapy, a frequency of 2-4 sessions per week was more effective than medication."
