An umbrella review (review of reviews) was performed by these researchers looking the effectiveness of acupuncture for migraines. They performed 22 reviews which included 24,635 patients. Across the board they found that acupuncture was both effective in pain reduction and in increasing days without migraines. They concluded that "acupuncture is a safe and effective alternative to medication for migraine" and that it should be "considered as a preventive treatment when conventional treatments are not effective, when there are contraindications to medication, or when non-pharmacological options are preferred."
