UB 33 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

The acupuncture point "UB 33" , 中髎, is represented by "Zhong Liao" in pinyin and "Central Bone Hole" in english and may be found:

On the sacrum medial and inferior to UB 32, level with the 3rd PSF.

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

UB 31, UB 32, UB 33 & UB 34 together form the "Eight Liao" points and are all useful for local low back a/or sacrum problems and most genital and urinary related disorders. Of these UB 32 is most often used clinically.
In women may be used for irregular menstruation, light cycles, leukorrhea, infertility.
As an adjunctive point for constipation - but may also be used for diarrhea.

UB 33 has some precautions to be considered (see our precautions list).

Cautions with pregnancy (PG)

A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. UB33, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Kidney Qi Deficiency

UB 33 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Amenorrhea (Absence of Menstruation), Back Pain, Constipation, Diarrhea, Infertility, Irregular Menstruation and/or Leukorrhea

While not necessarily valid clinically, EX Huatuojiaji at S3 (S3 influences the external genitalia and is used …) and UB 29 (Generally a local point for back pain and/or stif…) are nearby.
