The National Acupuncture and Detoxification Association (NADA) protocol is used widely around the world to aid those with alcohol and drug addictions. To learn more about the protocol (which is relatively easy to utilize), read the NADA protocol section.

Within the Tam Healing System that we utilize, we use the following points with tuina massage, tong ren therapy (a form of medical qi gong/energy healing) and acupuncture:

Huatuo of T9 (right) - aids the liver and resolves physical and energetic liver imbalances

Huatuo of C2 (right) and GB 13 (right) - effect the frontal lobe and chemistry behind addictions, depression, and/or anxiety (among other aspects)

TH 17 - effect circulation to and from the brain and facilitate the healing in the frontal lobe

UB 9, LV 3, GV 22, and other points based on proper TCM pattern differentiation (i.e. their Chinese Medicine diagnosis).

While acupuncture is a crucial part of breaking the cycle of addiction it should not be accomplished without support. Support may involve both western medical intervention (crucial during detox) and therapy to resolve underlying issues. Many centers incorporate the NADA protocol into their overal program.

There is very strong one point treatment for the same.

CV6 , tone this point for 6-8 hours a day for one month and see the difference.

Imagery is quite powerful in complementing all manner of treatments, and I recommend trying this one as a way to help quit alcohol cravings:

1. Imagine that there is a GIANT alcohol bottle inside of your energy field. It is so big that your mind cannot help but to "bump into it" as you try to go about your life. So imagine now just SHRINKING the alcohol bottle until it is teeny weeny, until your brain can "forget" to drink so much.

My understanding is that alcohol creates a strong reaction in the dopamine receptors in the brain ... and this has to be swapped with another strong substance and/or gradually turned down to reduce cravings.

Positive dopamine stimulators include exercise, by the way.
