You should consult with both an acupuncturist and a neurologist in your area and work towards a proper diagnosis. Those types of issues can be structural (disc degeneration, stenosis, etc.), autoimmune (MS, etc.), or any number of other issues. You would need bloodwork, a standard neurology workup, perhaps an MRI. Then your acupuncturist will need to extensively go through your medical history, do some physical examinations and watch you closely over your first 5-7 treatments to gauge progress. How you respond to acupuncture will likely lend some ideas as to the underlying causes. It can be relatively simple and many times bi-lateral conditions are not as serious as unilateral conditions (but that’s not a given).
