PC 1 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

The acupuncture point "PC 1" , 天池, is represented by "Tian Chi" in pinyin and "Celestial Pool" in english and may be found:

1 cun lateral to the nipple in the 4th ICS.

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • Window of the Sky Point, opens the chest - fullness, counterflow qi, cough with phlegm.
  • Headache, blurred vision, axillary sweating, malarial disorders, difficulty moving the limbs.
  • Breast disorders, breast abscess, insufficient lactation.

PC 1 has some precautions to be considered (see our precautions list).

No Deep Needling (NDN)

Pc 1 has the following theoretical associations which serve as important guideposts in designing an effective treatment protocol:

While not necessarily valid clinically, HT 1 (Regulate Qi flow from the torso to the arm and vi…), KD 23 (Local Point, generally useful for cough, chest te…), SP 18 (Descends qi - chest oppression, shortness of brea…) and ST 17 (Never needled or treated, simply a body landmark …) are nearby.
