A single formula, alone, may not be sufficient to fully address a particular TCM diagnostic pattern. Formulas may be used alone, in combinations, and/or in stages. Xue Fu Zhu Yu Wan is a candidate for consideration when needing to influence blood stagnation, liver blood stagnation and/or liver qi stagnation.
Xue Fu Zhu Yu Wan may potentially be used, in coordination with a well tailored overall approach, to influence the following conditions: dizziness (vertigo), dysmenorrhea (menstrual pain - cramps), headache, heart disease, hepatitis (b or c), hiccups, hypertension (high blood pressure), insomnia and/or irregular menstruation

- There are four general formulas that drive out blood stasis:
- Xue Fu Zhu Yu Wan (this formula) - stasis in the upper jiao
- Ge Xiao Zhu Yu Wan - stasis in the middle jiao
- Shao Fu Zhu Yu Wan - stasis in the lower jiao
- Shen Tong Zhu Yu Wan - stasis in the extremities.
