ST 23 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

Theory

The acupuncture point "ST 23" , 太乙, is represented by "Taiyi" in pinyin and "Supreme Unity" in english and may be found:

2 cun lateral to the AML level with CV 10.


Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • Abdominal pain, epigastric pain, bloating, poor appetite, diarrhea.
  • Shen/Spirit related imbalances related to phlegm - manic depression, irritability, anxiety.
  • Used with ST 24 for manic depression with stiff/thrusting tongue.

A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. ST23, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Phlegm Misting the Heart

ST 23 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Abdominal Pain, Anxiety, Depression, Diarrhea, Epigastric Pain, Irritability and/or Manic Depression

While not necessarily valid clinically, CV 10 ( CV 10 is indicated for issues with the lower …) and KD 17 (Local point for abdominal and colon pain and func…) are nearby.
