The acupuncture point "UB 26" , 關元俞, is represented by "Guan Yuan Shu" in pinyin and "Origin Pass Shu" in english and may be found:

1.5 cun lateral to GV line, level with L5.


Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • Local point for clearing the channel - low back pain, both as a local point and from wind invasion (possibly with UB 28).
  • Dissipates cold in the lower warmer - abdominal pain, bowel issues, abdominal masses.
  • Possibly useful for a range of urinary issues - frequency, nighttime urination, difficult urination.

A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. UB26, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Large Intestine Cold

UB 26 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Back Pain, Cysts, Fibroids and/or Urinary Disorders (Lin Disease)

While not necessarily valid clinically, EX Huatuojiaji at L5 (L5 innervates the descending colon and is used fo…) are nearby.
