UB 32 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

The acupuncture point "UB 32" , 次髎, is represented by "Ci Liao" in pinyin and "Second Bone Hole" in english and may be found:

On the sacrum medial and inferior to the PSIS, level with the 2nd PSF.

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • UB 31, UB 32, UB 33 & UB 34 together form the "Eight Liao" points and are all useful for local low back a/or sacrum problems and most genital and urinary related disorders. Of these this point, UB 32, is most often used clinically.  Sciatic pain, aids mobility in the lower limbs, loss of sensation in the lower limbs.
  • OB/GYN issues: leukorrhea - particularly white, irregulary cycles, painful menstruation, blood stagnation.
  • Important point for easing labor pain a/or inducing labor (needle point, bend and tape handle to the back).

UB 32 has some precautions to be considered (see our precautions list).

Cautions with pregnancy (PG)

A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. UB32, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Kidney Qi Deficiency and/or Liver Blood Stagnation

UB 32 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Back Pain, Dysmenorrhea (Menstrual Pain - Cramps), Irregular Menstruation, Labor Promotion, Leukorrhea and/or Sciatica

While not necessarily valid clinically, EX Huatuojiaji at S2 (S2 influences the bladder and is used for a range…), UB 28 (Main point for all Bladder issues: from damp heat…) and UB 53 (Local Point.) are nearby.
