UB 24 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

The acupuncture point "UB 24" , 氣海俞, is represented by "Qi Hai Shu" in pinyin and "Sea of Qi Shu" in english and may be found:

1.5 cun lateral to GV line, level with L3.


Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • Generally used as a local point for back pain.  General weakness in the low back and/or knees.
  • Due to the qi moving functions in the area, may be used with hemorrhoids, dysmehorrhea and other discharges such as leukorrhea, blood stools, etc.


Ub 24 has the following theoretical associations which serve as important guideposts in designing an effective treatment protocol:

UB 24 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Back Pain, Dysmenorrhea (Menstrual Pain - Cramps), Hemorrhoids, Knee Pain and/or Leukorrhea

While not necessarily valid clinically, EX Huatuojiaji at L3 (L3 innverates the prostate in men and the ovaries…) are nearby.
