UB 39 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

The acupuncture point "UB 39" , 委陽, is represented by "Wei Yang" in pinyin and "Bend Yang" in english and may be found:

Lateral to UB 40 on the medial border of the tendon of biceps femoris.

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

Harmonize the triple warmer, damp heat conditions effecting the lower warmer: disperse for difficult urination, tonify for urinary incontinence.
Frees the channel - lumbar pain, lower intestinal distention, hemorrhoids.
Swellings in the axillary region.
Local point for knee issues.

A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. UB39, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Bladder Damp Heat and/or Large Intestine Damp Heat

UB 39 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Arm Pain, Back Pain, Hemorrhoids, Incontinence, Knee Pain and/or Urinary Disorders (Lin Disease)
