UB 6 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

The acupuncture point "UB 6" , 承光, is represented by "Cheng Guang" in pinyin and "Light Guard" in english and may be found:

1.5 cun posterior to UB 5 or 2.5 cun above AHL and 1.5 cun lateral to the AML.


Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • Local point generally for headaches and vision issues - clears heat and wind.
  • Headaches particularly with visual dizziness.
  • Visual issues - blurry vision.
  • Wind-heat conditions when there is no sweating - vomiting, nasal discharge, etc.
  • Loss of smell.

UB 6 has some precautions to be considered (see our precautions list).

Avoid Moxa (MX)

A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. UB6, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Liver Wind and/or Lung Wind Invasion - Wind Heat

UB 6 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Headache, Vision Problems and/or Vomiting

While not necessarily valid clinically, GB 17 (Clears Heat and Regulates the Gallbladder. Headac…), GV 22 ( Nasal issues - congestion, olfactory problems…) and ST 8 (Classically mentioned for "splitting headache; he…) are nearby.
