UB 43 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

The acupuncture point "UB 43" , 膏肓俞, is represented by "Gao Huang Shu" in pinyin and "Above The Diaphragm Shu" in english and may be found:

3 cun lateral to the GV line, level with T4.


Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • Main point for all disorders of the Lung and Upper Warmer: asthma, dyspnea, cough, tuberculosis, etc.
  • Tonification point for cases of weakness and deficiency especially from chronic illness.


Ub 43 has the following theoretical associations which serve as important guideposts in designing an effective treatment protocol:

While not necessarily valid clinically, EX Huatuojiaji at T4 (T4 innervates the breast and influences the sweat…), SI 11 (Breast problems, mastitis, insufficient lactation…) and UB 14 (For all heart conditions: palpitations, anxiety, …) are nearby.
