UB 15 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

The acupuncture point "UB 15" , 心俞, is represented by "Xin Shu" in pinyin and "Heart Shu" in english and may be found:

1.5 cun lateral to GV 11, level with T5.

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • Main point for all heart related issues from a TCM perspective, blood and circulatory related issues of an excess or deficient nature.
  • Nourishes the spirit and calms the shen - main point for all heart related emotional issues: palpitations, anxiety, easily frightened (ht/kd), stress, poor memory. Useful with PC 6, HT 7, CV 14 a/or UB 14.
  • Particularly important point for insomnia.
  • Night sweats in Heart Qi a/or Yin deficiency.

Ub 15 has the following theoretical associations which serve as important guideposts in designing an effective treatment protocol:

A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. UB15, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Heart Qi Deficiency, Heart Yang Deficiency and/or Heart Yin Deficiency

UB 15 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Anxiety, Heart Disease, Insomnia, Memory Problems, Night Sweats (Sleep Hyperhidrosis) and/or Palpitations

While not necessarily valid clinically, EX Huatuojiaji at T5 (T5 influences the heart and pericardium systems -…), GV 11 ( Important point for spir…), TH 13 (Local Point ) and UB 44 (Reinforce the HT Shu (UB 15) and treat Heart rela…) are nearby.
