EX Huatuojiaji at T5 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

The acupuncture point "EX Huatuojiaji at T5" , 華佗夾脊, is represented by "Huatuojiaji" in pinyin and "Sides of Spine at T5" in english and may be found:

.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous processes of T5

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • T5 influences the heart and pericardium systems - in the tam healing system the left side is more for heart issues and the right is more for pericardium issues.  A range of psychoemotional issues, depression, anxiety, etc. as well as cardiovascular issues, lower body edema, palpitations, chest pain, etc.
  • Used extensively within the Tam Healing System and Tong Ren Therapy. May be needled and used with tuina and/or tonren therapy.

A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. EXHuatuojiaji at T5, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Heart Blood Stagnation, Heart Qi Deficiency and/or Heart Yin Deficiency

EX Huatuojiaji at T5 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Anxiety, Depression, Edema, Heart Disease, Palpitations and/or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

While not necessarily valid clinically, UB 15 (Main point for all heart related issues from a TC…) and UB 44 (Reinforce the HT Shu (UB 15) and treat Heart rela…) are nearby.
