EX Huatuojiaji at C4 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

The acupuncture point "EX Huatuojiaji at C4" , 華佗夾脊, is represented by "Huatuojiaji" in pinyin and "Sides of Spine at C4" in english and may be found:

.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous processes of C4

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • C4 innervates the areas of the mouth, jaw and chin.  May be used for a range of dental issues, bell's palsy, tmj as well as shoulder tension and/or neck issues due to holding tension in the upper parts of the body.
  • Used extensively within the Tam Healing System and Tong Ren Therapy. The cervical huatuo points are not needled as often, but used with tuina and/or tonren therapy.

EX Huatuojiaji at C4 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Bells Palsy, Dental Issues, Neck Pain, Shoulder Pain and/or Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ)

While not necessarily valid clinically, LI 18 (Window of the Sky Point for sudden loss of voice …) and ST 9 (In ancient times the ST Qi was assessed by palpat…) are nearby.
