EX Huatuojiaji at T6 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

The acupuncture point "EX Huatuojiaji at T6" , 華佗夾脊, is represented by "Huatuojiaji" in pinyin and "Sides of Spine at T6" in english and may be found:

.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous processes of T6

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • T6 innervates the diaphragm, used for a range of respiratory issues, asthma, shortness of breath, chest pain, etc..  Also used for esophageal issues (more on the left side) including a supporting role in some types of reflux and other digestive issues.
  • Used extensively within the Tam Healing System and Tong Ren Therapy. May be needled and used with tuina and/or tonren therapy.

A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. EXHuatuojiaji at T6, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Lung Qi Deficiency

EX Huatuojiaji at T6 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Acid Reflux Disease (GERD), Asthma and/or Esophageal Cancer

While not necessarily valid clinically, UB 16 (Hot a/or toxic skin conditions (esp. on the back)…) and UB 45 (Local Point.) are nearby.
