EX Huatuojiaji at T9 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

The acupuncture point "EX Huatuojiaji at T9" , 華佗夾脊, is represented by "Huatuojiaji" in pinyin and "Sides of Spine at T9" in english and may be found:

.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous processes of T9

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • T9 (Left) innervates the stomach and is used for a range of digestive issues including gas, bloating, ulcers and heartburn as well as stomach cancer.
  • T9 (Right) innervates the liver and is used for a range of physical liver as well as liver system issues from a Chinese Medicine perspective, this includes hormonal issues such as PMS and menstrual problems, stress related digestive issues and physical liver issues such as cirrhosis, hepatitis and cancer.
  • Used extensively within the Tam Healing System and Tong Ren Therapy. May be needled and used with tuina and/or tonren therapy.

A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. EXHuatuojiaji at T9, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Liver Qi Stagnation

EX Huatuojiaji at T9 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Acid Reflux Disease (GERD), Cirrhosis, Digestive Issues, Dysmenorrhea (Menstrual Pain - Cramps), Gastritis, Hepatitis (B or C) and/or Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)

While not necessarily valid clinically, UB 18 (Main point for all Liver related conditions in TC…) and UB 47 (Reinforce the LV Back Shu (UB 18) and help treat …) are nearby.
