CV 10 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

The acupuncture point "CV 10" , 下脘, is represented by "Xia Wan" in pinyin and "Lower Venter" in english and may be found:

2 cun above CV 8 (umbilicus).

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • CV 10 is indicated for issues with the lower stomach (stagnation, bloating, distention, weak digestion, diarrhea, undigested food in the stool, vomiting, borborygmus).
  • CV 12 is indicated for issues with the middle stomach and CV 13 is indicated for the upper stomach.

CV 10 has some precautions to be considered (see our precautions list).

No Perpendicular Needling (NPN) No Perpendicular Needling in Pregnancy.

While not necessarily valid clinically, KD 17 (Local point for abdominal and colon pain and func…) and ST 23 (Abdominal pain, epigastric pain, bloating, poor a…) are nearby.
