The acupuncture point "ST 31" , 髀關, is represented by "Biguan" in pinyin and "Thigh Joint" in english and may be found:
On 2 lines connecting the ASIS and the superiolateral corner of the patella and level with the lower border of symphysis pubis in a depression with thigh flexed lateral to the sartorius muscle.
Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:
A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. ST31, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Spleen Qi Deficiency
ST 31 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Arthritis (Bi Syndromes), Back Pain, Knee Pain, Leg Pain, Muscle Weakness and/or Muscular Dystrophy
While not necessarily valid clinically, CV 2 ( Generally useful for Deficiency and Cold-Type…), GB 30 (Sciatica, pain, numbness, atrophy of lower back, …), LV 10 (Local point.), LV 11 (Local point. The LV 9 - LV 11 area may be reactiv…) and SP 12 (Used for a variety of urinary disorders (retentio…) are nearby.
